In their plain, simple form, Bauhaus products are a design revolution. Form is completely subordinate to functionality, or in other words: form follows function. Many of the products developed by the Bauhaus, both in their original form and in their further development, are still an integral part of many households today, such as the cantilever chair, the Wagenfeld lamp or the Bauhaus wallpaper.
The cube chair by Josef Hoffmann holds what the name promises and that is the same in two respects. It consists of many squares, both in terms of construction and in relation to the design of the surface. In addition, the cube, with its purely geometric form, was a kind of harbinger of cubism. The chair by Josef Hoffmann was designed in 1910 and still stands today as a replica in numerous business and residential areas.
Originally, the cube was a club chair. Together with the two-and three-seater sofa of the series, a cosy sitting area with a sophisticated charisma is created. The basic frame of the armchair is made of wood. The form-resistant upholstery is covered with leather and has been shaped visually to squares with a special sewing.
