In their plain, simple form, Bauhaus products are a design revolution. Form is completely subordinate to functionality, or in other words: form follows function. Many of the products developed by the Bauhaus, both in their original form and in their further development, are still an integral part of many households today, such as the cantilever chair, the Wagenfeld lamp or the Bauhaus wallpaper.
This table by Mies van der Rohe matches the famous Barcelona series of armchair and stool, which was designed for the King of Spain and presented at the World Fair in 1929. Although the coffee table was not made until some time later by Mies van der Rohe for the house 'Tugendhat', it forms an attractive sitting area for offices and living rooms with the furniture of the Barcelona series. The table by Mies van der Rohe consists of a flat steel frame and a 12 mm thick glass plate, under the transparent plate a chromed 'X' appears through the construction.
